August 16th is going to be an amazing experience! Rivers of Steel is hosting the first public showing of The Carrie Deer documentary amid a fantastic evening of art, performance, music and great food! Check in with the updates on all the activities on their event page!
The goal of both the documentary and the event is to raise funding for restoration of the 40′ salvage art sculpture nestled in the heart of the Carrie Furnaces. Created by a group of young Pittsburgh artists in 1998 from scrap from the site using only hand tools, the Deer has remained in tact for over 18 years. To really get the story on how it was built and by whom (!) go to The Carrie Deer project website or my page on the documentary.
